About Myself
Hi my name is Sandi Coffman. I am a middle and high school teacher at West St. Francois County R-IV. I teach keyboarding skills to our 6th through 8th grade, Careers to our 8th grade, and Computer Application and Desktop Publishing to our high school students. I attended Potosi High School and then received my Bachelor's in Business Administration from SEMO. After moving back to the area, I returned to school and received my Business Education certificate and began teaching 25 years ago. :) Wow! I have a Masters in Curriculum and Technology and a Master's in Administration. I love teaching technology in our district. This is the best district to work for. The support and community togetherness never fails to amaze me.
I have implemented an Advisory program in our middle school and have spoken at a State and National conference on this subject. I have organized a cumulative 8th Grade Project in Careers with a spring Career Town event. We held this event for 13 years. We began a theater group. In the last 2 years we have hosted plays at the middle school level free of charge. Please check out the careers web page on this site. I always add our pictures and themes on this page. Our students love the recognition.
.
As part of our Advisory program, we decided to teach our students community service. We began our Lights Out On Cancer event seven years ago. This is a very moving and special event. We sold glow in the dark t-shirts and held a memorial service during a basketball game. Our choir and students supported the event. Proceeds went to students and their families, in our school district, that have had to face this horrible disease. Our community support is amazing.
Advisory also took a look at the transition of our incoming 6th graders into our middle school and the social issues that arise. 6th grade transition is a summer school program we now offer to these students to help acclimate them to their new environment. Camp Boost is promoted and explained at the 6th Grade Orientation.
I am a member of our Career Ladder Committee. I am the Building Leader of the Advisory program at our middle school. I served as chair of Professional Development for 19 years. I have also co-started a Photography class with Mrs. Clifton after school. Our photography students have done an excellent job the tech competition and MAC art fair. You should check out my clubs page. This group have also put on theater productions for the last 2 years.
I love pushing my students to do new things. In 2015 we began implementing the Goggle classroom which is set up online for our students. I believe it has been a great experience for all. It will prepare our students for the college experiences they will encounter.
I live in Terre Du Lac with my husband, Kevin and our five children. We are currently empty nesters. This will be my final year as a teacher and look forward to all the great memories. Afterwards, my husband and I will be moving to Gulf Shores, Alabama and beginning a new chapter.
I love meeting new people and peer sharing. If you are a parent and have any ideas or suggestions, please contact me. I love new...it keeps out boring. Thank you for allowing me to share in your student's lives and education.
Sincerely
Sandi Coffman
